明星汤姆克鲁斯等笃信宗教--山达基,被误解

Scientology is far from the world's most popular religion, but according to Juliette Lewis, it's largely misunderstood.

The actress, 41, has been a practicing Scientologist for years. While promoting her new movie Kelly & Cal, she recently spoke to The Daily Beastabout the controversial religion, defending the practice and its most famous proponent, Tom Cruise.

"I'll get all conspiratorial on you," she told the publication. "I'm just going to throw this out: The mainstream media is funded by pharmaceutical companies. When you have the biggest movie star in the world at the time — Tom Cruise — coming out against anti-depressants and Ritalin and just saying, 'Hey, why don't you put a warning label on there?'… So, when Tom came out about that, I've never seen someone get torn down so hard, and they still brutalize him with Scientology pieces to this day."

Additionally, Lewis went on to speak on her own experience with the religion.

"The thing about Scientology is it is anti-drug in that you're seeking relationship or communication tools — simple basics on how to live better," she told The Daily Beast. "It's a religious philosophy and self-help movement. And you'll never see a truthful word written about it in mainstream media."

Lewis and Cruise are far from the only two celebrity Scientologists. Other practicing stars includeKirstie Alley and John Travolta.

Lewis has spoken about her religious views in the past. The August: Osage County actress offered a more liberal view of Scientology to Vanity Fair in 2010. "I think there's so much confusion because people don't understand a religion where you can be another religion but you can still practice Scientology," she said at the time. "That's why it's completely progressive. It's just tools for living. It's about understanding one's self and others and compassion and how to communicate better and how to live in this troubled society. It's really basic, common sense stuff. It has nothing to do with all this funny folklore that surrounds it. You could be a Jewish Scientologist or a Buddhist Scientologist or a Christian Scientologist or anything else."

I lost a high school friend to Scientology. Her parents were heartbroken as they barely saw her or their grandchild. They have now passed away and never got over the loss of their daughter.
I arranged to see her on a trip to Florida near the headquarters at Clearwater.

My friend was a shadow of her former self. She was broke...had to borrow a cellphone so that we could meet up. She seemed fearful of meeting me. She asked to keep in touch but
her husband who was a recruiter discouraged this. My friend was intelligent, outgoing and
talented. That person does not exist anymore. What is left is an empty and fearful shell of her former personality. This is the lot of the scientologist minions. Those who are not celebrities but are there to support and wait on the celebrities.

There is scientology for celebrities. These fools somehow think all scientologists are treated the way they are. How naive. Their celibrity status within the organization (not a religion) happens because the majority who are not celebrities are basically servants to them.

I feel that if people want to practice any "religion" they can and should be allowed provided it does not hurt others. I do however, hold great skepticisim and concern toward anything that has so much secrecy involved with it. I personally believe that there is a higher power, but I refuse to go to any church or believe that one religion has it completely correct. If going somewhere and practicing what beliefs someone holds dear to them makes someone happy, then so be it. I don't think we should tear someone down because they have that belief. I also don't feel that because we disagree with someone that they should be ostracized for their opinions or beliefs. We don't have to believe the way that they do, but being part of a society requires us to at least be respectful of their feelings and try to work together to co-exsist. Maybe one day we will be able to do that and our world will be better for it.

Tom Cruise did a lot more than merely suggest that anti-depressants should come with a warning label. In fact, you cannot get them without a doctor's prescription, so they already come with a warning label. What Tom did was advise that we should all "have no mercy" for the practice of psychiatry. He said that Scientology will "take down" all the psychiatrists. That's ultimately what Scientology's holy grail is: to supplant psychiatry as the main form mental health medicine. It would be worth a LOT of money to them, which is really what churches are all about.

And let's not forget that Scientology's policy of "disconnection." Any religion that insists that you cut off everyone in your life that's not already in the club, accept Lord Xenu and his H-bomb apocalypse cockamemie story, and then actively chases you down when you try to leave... that's not a religion OR a self-help club. That's a cult with tax-exempt status.
