Fitness, diet can maintain good health, are all wrong. Mental health is the health preservation and the most important thing.

The World Health Organization defines health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease orinfirmity. Health here talks about both the body and the mind, but the relationship and severity of the two are not discussed. Human health is awhole. In order to facilitate analysis, we divide people into physical and psychological parts.

After distinguishing the two parts, let's take a look, why is the psychological part more important than the body part represented by the heart? Mainly from three perspectives:

1, from the meaning of life-mental health is the true meaning of life

Positive case:

(Stephen William Hawking

In 1963, at the age of 21, Hawking suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lugare's disease). He was completely paralyzed, unable to speak,
and only three fingers could move in his hand. But because of his clear consciousness and mental health, he can work as well, and he has made great achievements in the fields of cosmology and black hole research.

Nick Vujicic was born in Melbourne,Australia. He was born without limbs, which can be said to be disabled, but now he is a successful orator, He is now a self-reliant, independent and healthy, and the father of a happy family with four children.

They are all classic cases of mental health but physical illness, which reflects the meaning of life.

The opposite case:

阿尔兹海默症患者,躯体部分基本完好,由于精神活动失去正常功能,生活完全依靠家属或者社会支援才能生活;
Patients with Alzheimer's disease, the body part is basically intact, due to the loss of normal functions of mental activity,
life cannot take care of themselves, and rely solely on family members or social support to survive.

A friend of mine used to be a farmer together in her early years. After returning to Shanghai from the countryside,
she was admitted to the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Maybe she is so beautiful that she has many boyfriends.
In the 1980s, she was condemned by public opinion and punished by the police. After that, she became ill and developed schizophrenia.
She has been in a mental hospital for more than 30 years. Although her limbs were intact but she was mentally ill.
People with this mental illness have no meaning in life.

Through positive and negative cases, it is not difficult to see that mental normalcy is the meaning of life. The truly healthy life is mainly full of energy and mental health, while physical health is not the first or necessary.

2, in terms of longevity-people with mental health live longer

In June 2010, the Department of Civil Affairs ofJiangsu Province and other departments conducted a survey of centenarians in 107 counties (cities, districts) in 13 cities across the province. The survey included the basic conditions, self-evaluation, lifestyle, personal background,Family structure, life and medical security. A total of 2,378 questionnaires were distributed in the survey, and 2,095 completed and valid questionnaires were collected, accounting for 88.10%.

A few items related to mental health in the survey, let's take a look:

A),调查报告显示,百岁老人能够在吃饭、穿衣、上厕所等方面自理,所占比例为77.8%(独立性是心理健康指标之一);The survey report shows that centenarians are able to take care of themselves in eating, dressing, and going to the toilet, accounting for 77.8%(independence is one of the mental health indicators)

时,回答“很好”和“好”的占47.1%,回答“一般”的占37.5%(自我感觉良好也是心理健康标志); When centenarians asked "how do you feel about your current health?", 47.1% answered "very well" and "good", and 37.5% answered "fair" (feeling good about yourself is also a sign of mental health)

时,百岁老人有73.3%回答“很好”和“好”,17.8%回答“一般”,、(自我感觉生活快乐也是心理健康的特征);When asked "How do you feel about life now?" for centenarians, 73.3% of centenarians answered "very good" and"good", and 17.8% answered "general", (self-feeling happy life is also mentally healthy feature)

D),在问及百岁老人“我现在老了,但与年轻时一样快活”时,58.8% 作出肯定的回答,18.2%回答有时与年轻时一样快活(年轻态也是心理健康象征);When asked about centenarians "I am old now, but as happy as when I was young", 58.8% answered in the affirmative and 18.2% answered that they were sometimes as happy as when they were young (youngness is also asymbol of mental health)

The report said: “It shows that most centenarians’ happy mentality has not declined. In terms of their economic and physical conditions, they are not as good as ordinary people, but from the perspective of life satisfaction and happiness, the level of mental health is higher than the average person". The report also shows that longevity has little to do with region, economic conditions, and diet.
These also confirm the importance of mental health from the other side.

In addition, according to a research conducted by qq.com in October 2018, a text analysis of 50 media reports on the secrets of longevity for centenarians found that optimism and peace of mind are the first choice for longevity. This is consistent with the conclusion of the survey report on centenarians in Jiangsu Province.

A farmer in Anhui Province suffered from gastric cancer. His family knew that he was timid, and concealed his condition, lied to be general gastritis,
and underwent surgery. The operation was successful, and he was discharged soon. After a period of rest, he returned to his original condition and was able to live a normal life. One day, he played poker at the door with a few friends as he did in the past. By coincidence, an old friend came over and said casually: "Hey, aren't you stomach cancer? What's better?" After hearing this, he panicked. The friend playing cards at the side knew the details, and immediately added, "Who said stomach cancer is just general gastritis, don't talk nonsense." The farmer was shocked by just one sentence. He suffered a stomachache that day. Although he was sent to the hospital for rescue, he died the next day.
Is it a gastric cancer attack? The gastric cancer operation was successful, and then only one day had stomach pains to kill him?Is it the death of fear! Many people in life do not die of illness, but do die of scare. This makes sense.

I guess everyone has heard of the concept of psychosomatic disease. The so-called psychosomatic diseases are a group of diseases whose occurrence and development are closely related to psychosocial factors, but mainly manifested by physical symptoms. Simply put, these diseases are not mental illnesses, they are physical, but they are related to psychology. At present, the research on psychosomatic diseases is still in the process of in-depth research, but at present such diseases cover a wide range of fields, covering almost all human systems.
It says that mental problems cause nerves or the endocrine system is easy to understand. Psychological factors are related to skin, muscles, and ENT. Do you know the relationship between mental health and overall health?

Health and disease go hand in hand throughout one's life. When disease occurs, people's mental health can activate the immune system,
kill bacteria and viruses, which is conducive to our recovery.
On the contrary, it affects sleep and mood depression. The virus continues to invade our body, affecting the body's victory over illness and recovery of health.

Therefore, mental health certainly increase the chance of longevity. On the contrary, unhealthy mentality will definitely not lead to a long and healthy life.

From the relationship- the spirit governs and controls the body

Sylvester Colligan, a 76-year-old man who suffered from arthritis in his right knee for 5 years, went to the hospital for treatment.
The doctor told him that there is currently no treatment for this arthritis. The doctor also told him that there is a doctor and team doing this
kind of research treatment. After he listened, he was very interested. So he signed a treatment contract with this team of doctors.
This contract contains two parts, one is the actual surgical treatment, and the other is a placebo operation. Placebo surgery is only anesthetic and
symbolic form of surgery, without surgery and treatment essence. The nature of the patient's operation is confidential.  Colligan arranged for a placebo operation. Two years after the operation
a miracle happened to Colligan's knee. He told the surgeon that his right knee no longer hurts since the operation.
When he met a friend, he said that the doctor healed his knee, and he was full of admiration for this doctor. He can play basketball now, and his right knee is exactly the same as his left knee without any pain. Five years of knee pain disappeared completely.

Xue Nong , went to Japan to study at the age of 30. In order to earn money and at the same time ensure that the attendance rate of school is over 95%, he studies all day during the day and works 8 hours at night. Sleep atmost 3 or 4 hours a day. After returning from Japan,
he maintained this rhythm of sleeping less and working more. He persisted in studying, working, and exercising, and achieved great success.
He has his own company and bought a few houses. He looks very young and handsome. He is the benchmark of success among our friends.
Until the age of 58 years, a cold examination revealed cardiac fibroids. When the second hospital reconfirmed the cardiac fibroids, he couldn't breathe
after training for ten kilometers in the marathon a few days ago. Emergency admission to surgery. In the hospital, the doctor confirmed that it was a malignant heart tumor and could not undergo chemotherapy. He asked the doctor how he could treat it. The doctor said that
besides Chinese medicine, it is best to get more sleep. He knew there was no way, because he had been sleeping less for a long time, and now his nervous system had a problem, and he couldn't sleep anymore.
After his 60th birthday, he left the world forever.

Of course, you can say that he became ill from overwork; others say that he died of anxiety and depression.
What I want to say is that his willpower and ideas keep him from seeing his illness, because he and I have been good friends for more than 40 years,
and we have always been in contact. He firmly believes in the notion that less sleep leads to longer life. Once I challenged his view,
he opposed me with Churchill using less sleep and longevity. For example, his hands tremble when pouring coffee. I reminded him that this may be a physiological characteristic of anxiety, but he said no. He is a member of the psychology team and he reads a lot.
Wouldn't be ignorant of these simple knowledge. In his early years in Japan, he was studying in the day time and working 8 hours at night.
Eventually, he suffered from stomach bleeding and was rescued by a Japanese hospital. In addition, he sleeps so little every day,
studying in the middle of the night or early morning, he has never thought of insomnia disorder. While in charge of his own company, he participated in two marathons and ran the entire course. What is the reason why his physical abilities are so amazing? His ideas and willpower are his spiritual strength.

The above two cases tell us that thoughts and concepts can dominate and control our body, and can guide our nervous system.
Our pain can be real or fake. Behind this is the spirit or psychology at work. In the former case, he believed in surgery
(in fact, it was wrong, no surgery at all, untrue), and the pain disappeared;
in the latter, he believed (one or several concepts, such as less sleep), all his body Symptoms can be ignored,
even if reminded by friends, they are unaware.

In life, everyone is like this, no matter the big or small things, our words and deeds are controlled by thoughts. The idea behind the brain is the real helm. Whether it is family, career, or the most important physical foundation, it is all determined by our thoughts.

There is an ABC Theory of Emotion, created by American psychologist Albert Ellis.
A is the activating event, B is the belief, and C is the consequence. His theory holds that beliefs, not events,
produce consequences. For example.Suppose you are rushing to work in the morning, and you are drinking a glass of milk with one hand.
Suddenly someone behind you pushes you hard, knocking your milk over and getting all your milk in it. At this moment, you must be very angry and want to look back immediately. What’s going on? When you see that the person pushing you behind is a blind person,
slowly saying, I'm sorry, did I meet you? Your anger disappeared immediately, right? Well, the milk being knocked over  here is event A, anger (or not being angry) is the C, thought is B, now you are not angry because you have changed your mind,
thinking that he is a blind person and can be forgiven; your mind has changed So you don’t have to be angry. The incident has not changed, but the mood has changed. The concept changes the result. Therefore, B is the most important part.

There are too many such things in life, and trying to start something that doesn't go well is actually an attempt to change your mind,  which is to practice ABC theory. Illness is also an event. The important thing is not the illness itself, but your attitude toward illness.

To sum up, the analysis of the two parts of the spirit and the  body, from three perspectives, the role and status of the spirit (psychology)are
very important. If one considers a person's health as a whole, assuming 100 points is the perfect score for health, then the
mental (psychological) effect accounts for more than 51%.
Whether it is the quality of life (meaningful and meaningless),
the length of life (the length of years),
or the management and control of life (spirit is the helmsman),
the spirit comes first. For health, let us start with mental health. Pay attention to cultivating the mind, grasp and accept the concept of health. When mentally healthy, do you still worry about unhealthy and longevity?
